The Emirates is the first Arab country to start using vertical farm. At these farms, plants grow in vertical rectangular basins. This is in line with the country’s vision of UAE 2021 to support sustainable crop production and ensure food security for the Emirates. .

The country has signed an agreement with US Company Crop One to develop and establish the largest vertical farm in the world. It’ll be located near Al Maktoum International Airport and be able to produce 2700 kg of green products a day without the need for medicines and insecticides. Other projects are run by the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment and Badia Farms.

There are many benefits of vertical agriculture, such as they use only natural resources, they reduce water consumption by 90%, there’s crop production throughout the year, the crops ripen in a shorter time, and they’re less susceptible to contamination and pollution.
