UAE Dirham Turns 44

UAE dirham celebrates its 44th year today, celebrating the unified form representing the seven emirates after undergoing several transformations.

The journey of banknotes begun in 1973 by displaying the watermark of an Arabian horse, but later it was changed to falcon, the national bird of UAE.

May 19 also marks the formation of the UAE Currency Board.
