The UAE’s Ministry of Finance has announced that it will start implement a selective tax on goods that affect health; this will come into effect from the last quarter of 2017.

A 100% tax will be imposed on tobacco, while aerated drinks will be hit by a 50% tax.

Several countries and organisations are working hard to fight smoking. The latest effort comes from Britain, which has decided to change the colour of cigarette packs to greenish brown, which experts called ‘the ugliest colour in the world’, according to the BBC. This aims to deter smokers from picking it up.
