The Chairman of Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, has approved an incentive programme to promote the use of electric cars in Dubai.

The Council issued a directive stating that government institutions must ensure 10% of all new purchases of fleet vehicles are for hybrid or electric vehicles. This will support the target for 2020 for 2% of all vehicles to be hybrid or electric, and by 2030 this will rise to 10%.

The meeting also discussed the progress of implementing the Dubai Integrated Water Strategy, with the aid of green building regulations, retrofitting existing buildings, district cooling, reuse of wastewater and more.
