Bayt Al Wakeel: an Old Dubai Gem

Once a shipping office and a partner with the former British East India Company, Bayt Al Wakeel is now a museum and a restaurant that overlooks the busy waters of Dubai Creek.

With direct access to the historical Souq Al Kabeer market, the place was once a base for the Gray McKenzie & Company, a shipping office that provided equipment to the British East India Company in 1935.

During this time, people would flock to the offices in order to settle their business disputes with the company’s official agent [Wakeel in Arabic]; hence, the place went on to be called the ‘Agent’s House’ or ‘Bayt Al Wakeel’ in Arabic.
